The Liebster Award

Hey guys !

I’m finally back after a long hiatus. In case some of you are wondering ( in which, i’m not even sure if there is anyone actually interested to know ), I’ve been traveling a lot lately and haven’t really been able to update my blog plus the internet connection in my home broke down a week ago so I cannot really make any update on my blog. So yeah, no I didn’t die and become a zombie, it’s just I haven’t really got any free time to update my blog and when I do, the internet god just decides to broke my internet connection.

I’m seriously beyond grateful when I was nominated for this award. Thank you Travelling Through Words for nominating me ! I just feel so thankful that somebody actually notice my blog and like it even though I’ve been missing in the blogosphere for God knows how long.

The Liebster Award is a way to support and bring recognition to each other’s blogs.

Here are the rules of the Liebster Award:

  • Provide 11 random facts about yourself.

  • Create a new list of questions for the nominees to answer
  • List these rules in your post (copy and paste from here). Once you have written and published it, you then have to:
Inform the people/blogs that you nominated that they have been nominated for the Liebster Award and provide a link for them to your post so that they can learn about it (they might not have ever heard of it!)

Book Review – Unfinished Diary by Ronald Gan

The author gave me this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a debut novel by Ronald Gan. You guys can read the synopsis of the book in here. I personally think that for a debut novel, this book is pretty entertaining. Obviously, I found some flaws in the book but this book is still nevertheless enjoyable.

Honestly, I started off not liking the main character Lucy Rosalinda. When she was a kid, I felt like she comes off as annoying and so full of herself. However, as the story goes on, she becomes more mature and become a much more loveable individual. I like how the writer developed her character. In short, I think she is an extremely nice individual, sometimes too nice but in times, she can be such a rebel when she really believe in something. A very interesting personality indeed.

What I really like in this book is the writing style. I personally really enjoy the philosophy from the characters in the book and I love how it was written in a diary style ( Is this even a correct term? haha.. ). It somehow reminds me of Perks of being A Wallflower where the writer deliver the story using letters and that is one of my favorite book. I’m not really sure why I love this kind of writing style but I think one of the reason is that I feel like I’m really there, in the character’s world, in whatever reality the character is in.

All in all, I think this is a good debut novel. The story line is not too heavy yet it’s still filled with so much philosophy and entertainment. People who enjoy reading contemporary and romance book will definitely enjoy reading this novel. So, if you are one of those of people who love those genres, this book might be for you.

Myself in 5 Characters

Surprise, surprise ! This is my second post in the same week and 2 days in a row. I guess my goal to become more active in the blogosphere world is finally achieved ( at least for this week ).

Paige tagged me with this and honestly this is a hard tag to answer.. Sorry it took me a while to answer this, Paige ! I need to take some time to finally be able describe myself with book characters ( trust me, it’s not easy guys ! ).

  • The Reader ( Hermione Granger from Harry Potter )

I’ve been reading almost my whole life. My parents are the one that first introduce me to reading and I’ve been loving it since I’m a kid. I guess that kind of runs down in the family because everyone in my family read books. That’s why I never really understand when people told me they cannot enjoy reading as it makes them feel sleepy. I always thought that maybe just maybe they haven’t find the right book for them.

  • Introvert ( Charlie from Perks of Being a Wallflower )

Let me mention this once, being an introvert doesn’t mean that I don’t have friends whatsoever. It’s more that in a room full of strangers, I will most likely be the one who stays quiet. It’s just I don’t really know what to talk about and being in new environment is hard. Plus, my idea of a good weekend is curling up in my bed reading a good book or chill and marathon on some tv series or movies instead of going to parties.

  • Joker ( Leo Valdez from Heroes of Olympus series )

Not gonna lie, I love myself a good humor and I love throwing jokes every now and then. Did that shows in the way I wrote my blog posts? I hate full on serious and heavy tension situation. I feel like in life people need to have more fun in life.

  • Big Sister ( Margot from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before )

I have a little sister and yeah we do fun ( and most of the time weird ) things together, period.

  • Living the college life ( Cricket from Lola and The Boy Next Door )

The picture has done college life justice, so no need for me to explain. *cries internally as exam is close*

That’s me in 5 characters. Hopefully you enjoy reading this post ! I want to tag my new friends/followers. Don’t feel pressured to do it, if you don’t want to you can just ignore the tag. If you do it, tag me on your post so I can read it and know you a little bit better. 😘😘

Top 5 Wednesday – Least Favorite Book in Your Favorite Series

Hey guys !

As I promised, this is my meme of the week. This is my first time doing the top 5 Wednesday meme and the topic is pretty exciting, so let’s start, shall we?

  1. Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince by J K Rowling – Harry Potter is my ultimate favorite series ( and I personally think it should be everybody’s favorite as well, just saying haha.. ) but if I have to choose my least favorite book in the series, it would be this one. Perhaps because there are less action in the book but this book is very much needed for the foundation of the rest of the series.
  2. Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan – I’ve read and watched some reviews on the internet and I’ve seen a lot of people say that this is their favorite book in the Heroes of Olympus series but I guess that’s just not the case for me. I guess I just find the rest of the books in the series much more interesting.
  3. It’s Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han – I love the series and I always adore Jenny Han’s writing style. I think I just feel like this book is a bit more plain than the other two in the Summer series. Nevertheless, it’s still a good read.
  4. P.S I Still Love You by Jenny Han – By this time you must have known that I love Jenny Han’s book as I mentioned 2 of her series in this blog meme and it is because I am. This book wasn’t as exciting as the first book but it’s still a heartwarming one. I always thought that I’m going to like this series more than the Summer series because I like the first book a lot but when I finally read this book, it doesn’t really fulfil my expectation.
  5. The Death Cure by James Dashner – I enjoy the first half of the book and really, the idea in this series is quite good. I’m no big fan for dystopian and utopian novels but the idea for this series is interesting and that is why I decided to pick this series up but the ending just kills me. That is basically why this is my least favorite book in the series.

Best Regards,

Top Ten Tuesday – Ten Books I Really Love But Feel Like I Haven’t Talked About Enough/In A While

What’s up everyone ? Guess what, I’m alive hahaha…

I know it’s been a while since I post something in the blog and perhaps most of you ( though I’m not sure if there really is a you who read this blog ) thought that I’ve abandoned this blog. I may or may not think about that but rest assured that I’m now back for good.

If any of you wonder why I’m suddenly missing from the blog posting chain ( though again, I’m not sure if there really is a you who read this blog, but let’s just assume there is ok? ), I’ve been adjusting to my new life in uni since I’ve just graduated from my diploma last year and currently living my degree life. But mostly, I just ran out of ideas to write in this blog because I haven’t read that many books and I just don’t feel like writing any movie reviews. Plus, I’ve been extremely busy ( yes, I’m not exaggerating guys! ) with club activities as well and I found a new hobby to practice during my holiday season, baking! I might share some recipes under ‘Daily Life’ section on top menu soon.

So, let’s get back the point of this post. I decided to do this top ten tuesday each week just so my blog won’t be dead and might follow up with an extra post if I have something I read or watch during the week.

Here are my list for this week top ten tuesday topic :

  1. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom – This book is an all time favorite for me especially when I’m in doubt and need some good wisdom. Just kidding, I’ll ask my family and friends first if I need some wisdom but nevertheless, this book offer a good and thoughtful life wisdom and definitely leave me in an awe and deeper understanding in life after I read it. This is one of those book that make me think more about what is really important in life and for me this is my favorite book from Mitch Albom. I still remember I rave so much about this book to my friends after I read it. Moreover, this is a non-fiction book and featuring this book in the book I love list says a lot since I’m not much of a non-fiction reader.
  2. Wonder by R J PalacioWhatever words I’m writing here won’t do this book any justice. You need to read it yourself to know how good and valuable this book is. It’s just one of those feel good book with a lot of important value about friendship and struggles about being different. This is one of my top favorite book and I think everyone should read this at least once.
  3. Everyday by David Levithan – It’s funny how I never talk about this book in this blog. Perhaps because it’s been a while since I read this book. Probably around 2 years ago and honestly this book got a really good plot and seriously though, who would have such an interesting idea about a soul with different body every single day. Such a unique story and very well written too. This book was recommended by my friend and this is her favorite book as well.
  4. And Then There Were None by Agatha ChristieMy first Agatha Christie book and damn this book really blew my mind. Honestly, I’m really looking forward to read this book after I watched a Korean drama ( The Master’s Sun ). A riddle from this book was mentioned in the drama and it instantly hooked me. It’s just so interesting and mysterious and captivating. If you really love mystery novels, this book is really for you. It has a wonderful plot and a good ‘try to guess’ who the bad guy is feels. I’m not sure if you understand what that means but it is essentially a really good mystery book and one of my favorite from Agatha Christie’s books.
  5. Saga by Brian K. VaughanI mentioned it once in this book but I don’t think I’ve mentioned it enough. I’ve read until volume IV and the storyline is just amazing. I haven’t read the latest one yet which is volume V but wow, I can seriously finish this series in one seating. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
  6. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen ChboskyI watched the movie first before I read the book and I’m not gonna lie, I merely watched the movie because Logan Lerman and Emma Watsons is in it. I thought the movie was okay and later on I decided to grab the book because I don’t quite understand the ending of the movie. I love how different the writing style in this book is and most importantly this book give me a lot of feels. I can’t quite explain how but Charlie’s journey is just so real that it makes me think that his situation can really occurs in real life.
  7. When The Mountains Meet The Moon by Grace LinThis is just a lovely children book that I really really like. The story is simple yet full of morale lessons and the art work is just so cute. Perhaps I’m biased but growing up in a Chinese household make me value books with Chinese folklore like this.
  8. Humans of New York by Brandon StantonI remember a couple years back that I am so obsessed with HONY instagram. The idea of capturing strangers and writing down their stories even as simple as their everyday life is just so unique. When it was made into a book, I just need to get it and the book is just a lovely collection that I can flip once in a while to find a good inspiration in it.
  9. Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary This book give me a lot of similar feels as when I read Wonder and that is definitely a good thing since Wonder is just hands down, one of my ultimate favorite book of all time. This book is shorter and in a sense, simpler than Wonder but nevertheless, it is a great read.
  10. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom RiggsThis is the only recent read that I really really enjoy. This book left me with joy and curiosity for more stories. I haven’t yet read the rest of the series but I will as soon as I got the time. I haven’t enjoy reading a fantasy book this much since Harry Potter series and Percy Jackson series ended. I can see myself loving this book as much as the two series I mentioned before but we’ll see..

So, these are my current top ten books that I really love but I haven’t talked about enough. I hope you find something you like here and if not, you can share what yours is in the comment box. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Book Review – March Wrap Up

Hello everyone ! Today I’d like to share my thoughts on some of the books that I’ve read last month. I finished a couple of books, 5 books to be precise. Actually the first two books I’m going to review was read on February and I’ve made a short review of it on my goodreads account but since I didn’t make a February wrap up here, I don’t know why I don’t make it, I thought I’d just include those books in this wrap up.

1. Saga, Volume 2

I finished this book in the airport on my way back to my hometown. This was such a quick read. I actually read 1/4 of this book back in Singapore but I can’t finished it due to lots of things to do at that moment. This series is just epic and I can’t get enough of it. The story and the graphic still blew my mind. I just love this series so much and the story keep on getting better. I’m definitely going to order the 3rd and 4th book as soon as I went back to Singapore.

2. Becoming Generation Flux

The author sent me this e-book in exchange for an honest review.  First of all, thank you for sending me the book. I read this during my reading slump and I went through this so slowly because of it. This book is surely not my usual cup of tea but I do find this as a very handy book. I do find some new insights and perspectives as I’m reading this book. I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this on my blog but I’m currently pursuing a degree in business and this book sure give me lots of new insights to nowadays working environment. I do find this as a quite hard book, there are some moments when I felt bored when reading this book but at the end of the day, when I finally finished it, I feel happy because I feel like I finally read something useful for my future career life. I really think that everyone especially people who are currently in college or fresh graduate who are completely clueless of the working world should give this book a chance because there really are some really good advices about the working world in this book.

3. Girl Online

This is actually the book that got me back into my reading mood. First of all, I need to say that I’m not a big fan of this book’s cover and I do think that the cover could be much better. Just saying, just saying. No hate for the book. Anyway this book has been such a hype because it’s written by Zoella, a famous youtuber who apparently broke the sales record of Harry Potter. That is impressive. The book itself is quite interesting. It’s such an easy and sweet read. The kind of book that gives you that warm fuzzy feeling. I find the storyline interesting, It’s about a girl who wrote an online blog anonymously and blog her daily life. One day, she met a guy in New York who is very very lovely but he has a secret that might threaten her cover on the blog. Overall, this book is just a wonderfully simple and short read. It’s so cheesy and cute at the same time and it’s pretty hard to put down once I started reading it. It’s a good job for a debut novel.

4. Lola and The Boy Next Door

Lola is definitely not my favorite character in this book though her name is on the cover and this is the story of her life. On the other hand I love love Cricket, the main male character in this novel. He is such an interesting character and I just love how Stephanie Perkins describe guy in her novel. The male lead in her novels can seriously make you swoon. There is no more need to mention that the story is extremely sweet, so sweet that it might give you a diabetes. Stephanie Perkins is just so good at making extra sweet story. As I said before, Lola is not my favorite female lead in the Anna and The French Kiss series because I feel like she is too quirky but I do love the fact that she is very talented. I much prefer Anna but I do have a feeling that I’d like Isla more which reminds me that I need to order that book as soon as possible. I actually want to bought it before in the bookstore at the same time with this one but unfortunately they are out of stock. So sad. Anyway I can’t wait to read the Isla and The Happily Ever After. For some odd reasons I think it will be interesting if Miss Perkins made a sequel about Calliope, Cricket’s twin sister as I think the story might be interesting. Anyone has the same opinion as me?

5. The Blood of Olympus

I think there is no more need to mention of how much I love Rick Riordan’s book and this series. The story just keep on getting more and more interesting on each book and I am so sad when I finished this book because the Heroes of Olympus journey is over. I got a really bad book hangover after I finished this series and it’s just bad guys. So bad that I searched the graphic arts and more things related to this series. I’ve been complaining about the series cover a lot but this one just kill it. The cover is beautiful and I love the cover a lot. It’s just so gorgeous guys. The story is da bomb. I don’t know if you understand what I’m saying but what I meant is that this last book is a good wrap up for the whole series but Mr Riordan leave a couple of cliffhanger in the book. Why oh why? I want to know more about what happened to Leo. More Leo please and more Percy too. The characters in this book are as always, interesting but I do find my 2 least favorite characters which is Piper and Jason. No hate though, just like other characters better. I found myself really liking Reyna’s character in this book and I also really like Nico but I started liking Nico in House of Hades which in case you are wondering, no there is no review about that book. I also don’t know why I didn’t write it. To wrap up the whole review for this book, this is just a MUST READ book, to be precise, a MUST READ SERIES. It’s so awesome that I would recommend this book to everyone. JUST READ IT PEOPLE AND SEE HOW AWESOME THIS BOOK IS !

That’s all for March wrap up. I hope you enjoy the review !

Cheers, E

Reading Playlist 101

Hello everyone,

Just to prove that I’m in fact, still alive and breathing, here is a playlist for all of you that I made last week. It’s a pretty chill playlist to accompany all of you while reading. I don’t know about you but I love listening to chilling music while reading and I found a couple of good songs to share with you to listen to while reading.

Just a bit of a random rants here, I’ve been having reading slumps for almost a month. Yes guys, it happened again. I’ve just been so engrossed in Korean drama and I’ve been watching it non-stop. I’ve just stopped a couple days ago and get back into reading again which makes me feel really good. This is also the reason why I haven’t been posting a lot lately in this blog. There will be a couple of reviews coming up this week and I hope I won’t procrastinate so I can really post it this week.

I actually got some other things I wanted to write in this post yesterday but I forgot. My bad..

Anyway, have you listen to the playlist? What do you think? I hope you enjoy it. If you happened to read this post and like this playlist I made, please like this post or comment so I’ll know what you think.
