Movie Review – Chappie

I watched this movie at the beginning of this month just because all movies that I anticipated hasn’t came out. I expect nothing from this movie, in fact, I expect it to be boring since the last movies about robots that I watched bored me. I’ve been wanting to make a review for this for ages but I just can’t seem to get my hands on it. I don’t even know why since I actually got time to do the review. I don’t even know if you can still watch this movie in the cinema or not but I think it’s still playing in some cinemas.

This movie turns out to be okay. I thought I’m not gonna like this movie but it happens to be quite interesting. The movie is about Chappie, a robot who happened to be a successful artificial intelligence experiment. Chappie is a police robot that happened to be broken but later been used as a testing subject for artificial intelligence. The story gets interesting when Chappie fall into the gangster hand. Now, I’m not going to tell you more about the story since it won’t be fun if you don’t watch it by yourself.

When I think about this movie and how it might actually happened in real life, it scares me. Robots that can think for themselves and have feelings? It’s just so weird, fascinating and creepy at the same time because it might means that they might replace us in this world. It might be the end of mankind. If the robot is kind, sure, we can live happily together but what if they suddenly think to take over the planet. Pretty scary, huh? I think I imagine things too far.

The storyline is pretty okay but I find the ending a bit odd. The whole movie is just okay for me but it makes me think right after I finished watching it. The casts are actually what makes me interested in watching the movie. There is Hugh Jackman and Dev Patel which happened to play the two main characters in the movie.

If you have watched the movie, what do you think about it? And if you don’t, would you consider watching it?

Reading Playlist 101

Hello everyone,

Just to prove that I’m in fact, still alive and breathing, here is a playlist for all of you that I made last week. It’s a pretty chill playlist to accompany all of you while reading. I don’t know about you but I love listening to chilling music while reading and I found a couple of good songs to share with you to listen to while reading.

Just a bit of a random rants here, I’ve been having reading slumps for almost a month. Yes guys, it happened again. I’ve just been so engrossed in Korean drama and I’ve been watching it non-stop. I’ve just stopped a couple days ago and get back into reading again which makes me feel really good. This is also the reason why I haven’t been posting a lot lately in this blog. There will be a couple of reviews coming up this week and I hope I won’t procrastinate so I can really post it this week.

I actually got some other things I wanted to write in this post yesterday but I forgot. My bad..

Anyway, have you listen to the playlist? What do you think? I hope you enjoy it. If you happened to read this post and like this playlist I made, please like this post or comment so I’ll know what you think.

Movie Review – Kingsman : The Secret Service

If you love movie as much as I am, I’m pretty sure you’ve heard about this movie. I don’t know if it’s just in where I live but this movie has been a hype ! I’m pretty excited when I finally got to see the movie because you know, I just want to know what’s all the hype about this movie plus the trailer is pretty awesome.

The movie is definitely awesome. I was pretty skeptical at first because I have a high expectation for this movie but damn this movie pass my expectation. The story is well done, the action is awesome, not to mention the awesome choice of casts and settings. I think I seriously love everything about this movie. I can’t even think of any bad things to criticise, not that I’m a professional critics or anything, but sometimes I’d like to point out things I don’t like in a movie review.

Let me just say that the storyline is so great. It’s not too simple nor complicated just the perfect amount of it. I don’t know if I had mention it here that I have a major love for action movie especially if it is related to spy, agent, or other things similar to that. I like the concept of the movie because it’s pretty different from other action movie except James Bond series as the agents are gentlemen. It’s been a while since I watched a movie with this kind of concept. I also love the little comedy bits in this movie. I think it makes the movie much more fun to watched.

The characters are also played very well. I think all characters harmonised the story and make it a wonderful movie to watch. I love the actors and actresses choices in this movie as they act nicely. They make the whole movie experience so enjoyable.

I cannot say much about this movie as it is such an awesome movie and no words can describe how much I like this movie. I think this is by far my favourite movie in this year but this year is not over so I’m anticipating more good movies. I really hope there will be a sequel to this movie because no doubt I’m going to watch it. I’d suggest this movie for people who love action movies.

Movie Review – Dragon Blade

Wow, I feel like I haven’t make a post here for forever. It’s been a long time, I guess, since I wrote here, almost a month. Now that i’m back, I’ll wrote down some reviews for books and movies that I read and watched, plus I’m in a super long break from uni anyway.

Last Sunday, I happened to watch a movie called Dragon Blade in the cinema. It’s a historical action movie starring Jackie Chan, John Cusack, and Adrien Brody. I have no idea what this movie is about when I went to watched it. I didn’t watch the trailer or ready the synopsis. Basically, I knew nothing except that Jackie Chan is in this movie and usually his movie is good.

The movie itself is very interesting. I really like the idea of the movie and how the story goes. I love how it is about the chinese and the romans. Don’t you think it’s interesting? Even the fact that the movie is about those 2 countries is very intriguing for me. Actually, it’s not only those 2 countries, there are also others that happened to locate in the silk road region as well. I think, the most interesting thing to see is how those people with different race and different culture can blend in together and how they are not that different.

I love the casts as well. I really feel that they portray the character nicely. Jackie Chan acting is no doubt amazing as always. I love that he mostly have the humor bits in this movie. I always appreciate funny scenes because I just love it when it makes me laugh. John Cusack and Adrien Brody also did a great job. The character’s emotion is perfectly portrayed by them. The other casts also did very well and all of them makes this movie very enjoyable to watch.

All in all, this movie is very enjoyable to watch as the story and the characters are really well done. I would suggest this movie for people who love Jackie Chan’s previous movies as well as people who love historical action movie.

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon Wrap Up

I read a total of 2 books during this read-a-thon. Considering I was in a reading slump period before joining this, I’m quite proud of my achievement. Here are the 2 books I finished :

My True Love Gave to Me

This book is a pretty cute book. It consists of 12 short stories written by different authors. Most of the stories are cute and give you that warm fuzzy feeling but there are also some stories that I personally think really weird and I didn’t actually enjoy that much. All of the stories in this book have Christmas as the setting and it really is a perfect book for holiday. My favorite stories would be the one written by Rainbow Rowell. The plot and the character are fantastic. I really need to pick up her books because damn I haven’t read any book she wrote. This book can be a perfect holiday gift for you loved ones or even yourself.

Saga, Vol. 1

Saga is an epic high fantasy graphic novel. I finished this book in 2 days just because I started this book late at night. This is seriously an awesome graphic novel. I’ve read lots of manga back when I was a kid but this is my first time reading a graphic novel and damn this book is mind blowing. I love everything about this book, the graphic is awesome, the story is brilliant, I can’t say anything about this book except the word awesome. I’ve start reading the second book on the last day of read-a-thon but I cannot finished it due to my schedule. I hope I can finished it as soon as possible because this is one quick and great read. I have no disappointment picking this up.

That’s all I read during this read-a-thon. It’s not that much but I’m pretty satisfied because I got over my reading slump because of joining this read-a-thon, well mostly because of the graphic novel I read. I really suggest people to read graphic novel during reading slump because it really works. It got me back into reading. How’s your read-a-thon? If you happened to read this post and join a read-a-thon as well, I’d be very happy if you tell me your experience in the comment. I’d love to hear your story about your read-a-thon experience.

New Year 2015 Resolutions and Read-A-Thon

Hello everyone !

It’s a day late but I want to say happy new year to all of you. I don’t know who actually read my blog anyway but if there is actually a person reading this, happy new year to you, to all of you who actually read this. I’ve been a slump these past few months and I’m hoping I won’t be a slump anymore this year. I know a lot of people said that new year resolution are bullshit but I’m going to make one now. I feel like when I write my goals, It motivates me to do a lot better to reach thems. Here are my 2015 resolutions :

1. My ultimate goal this year is to lose weight and be more healthy. I’m going to be very realistic with this one, my goal is to lose 18 pounds. I’ve been eating a lot of junk food last year and it’s not healthy for my body. This year I’m going to try to eat healthier, not only to get a better figure, but also for a healthier body. I’m also going to try to exercise more. I’m not a big fan of exercising so I really need to push myself to do it this year.

2. Write more. I’ve been having a lot of fictional thoughts in my brain and I just need to write it out. Last year I get to write almost 2 chapters and then I just forgot about it. This year my goal is to finish the book. I’m really hoping I can finish it. My highest achievement in writing a fictional story is a short story and I really hope I can finish writing a novel this year.

3. Read more. I’ve been in a reading slump this past few weeks and this happened for quite some time over last year. I’m hoping I can read more books in 2015. Last year, I reach my goal in reading 15 books, heck, I even pass it to 25 books. I’m not a fast reader so 25 is quite an achievement for me. Since I read 25 books last year, this year I’m hoping to read 30 books. I’m going to have a lot of free time, hopefully, this year since I’m finishing my diploma in February. I hope I pass everything so I will finish my diploma in around one month. After diploma there will be a 3 months break before degree life starts so I’m going to use that to read a lot because once degree life starts, I don’t think I can read that much anymore. In order to get over my reading slump and to achieve my goal, I’m going to join a read-a-thon this month. Here is some information for the read-a-thon. This is my second time joining this read-a-thon.

Bout of Books

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, January 5th and runs through Sunday, January 11th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 12 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

4. Blog more. Beside writing novel, I also want to write more in here. I’ve been reading some books but I haven’t got the chance to review it since 3 months ago. When I finally got time to review it, I just don’t feel like reviewing and at the end, it become a burden for me to review since I read quite a lot of books the last couple months. Now, I’m going to start of fresh and do some new things in here. I’m not going to make a review for each book but I’m going to start making a wrap up for every month. In each wrap up I’m going to include my favorite book from each month if I read more than one book. I will still make a seperate review for a book if I need to address more things. Movie review will stay the same.

5. Take more chances. By this, I mean to not be afraid to try new things and new opportunities and also meet new people. All this time, I’m always so scared to get out from my comfort zone and it’s honestly not a good thing. I feel like I’m lack of experience and skill because I’m so afraid and lazy to try new things. I’m scared that I’ll fail and hopefully this year I won’t, at least I try to be more open to new things, good things and not scared of failing anymore. I still should pass in my study though, hahaha.

I think 5 is enough for a new year resolutions, I don’t want to overwhelm myself with too many goals. Hopefully I can achieve all of these resolutions and I hope you all have a wonderful year ahead !

Book Review – Mark of Athena ( Heroes of Olympus #3 )

This is obviously a late review as I’m seriously not in the mood for reviewing books and movies in the past couple of months. I do finished off a couple of books and watched a couple of movies the last 2 months but I either have no time to do review or at that time I’m just not in the mood.

Anyway, I read this book back on October. As you know if you read my previous posts, I read the second book in this series during my university break back in September and I really really enjoy it. It’s one of my favourite book in the series. As soon as I got back to Singapore and before uni life starts again, I finished reading Mark of the Athena. Here are what I think about the book :

First of all, I need to say that this is not my favourite book in the series. I read and watch some reviews about this on the internet and most people seems to like this book best. I for one do not think that this is the best book in the series.

This book is exciting to read. I like it, but I wouldn’t say that I love it. There are a lot of actions in this book and the chemistry between the character are starting to grow as well. I guess the reason I don’t like this as much as the previous book because I expect to read more from each character but because there are so many characters in this book, I only get a little bit of everyone. Nevertheless, this book is still very enjoyable to read. I mean, how could I not love a book with actions, romance, greek mythology, and humour? It’s like no way I’m not enjoying this book.

The writing style is as always, stunning. I just love how Rick Riordan wrote the stories. I always love that he used several point of views instead of one. I just adore his writing style.

All in all, this book is an enjoyable one. I like it but I don’t think this is the best book in the series so far as I like the previous one better than this. I’d recommend this book for people who love greek mythology fantasy books and people from 10 onwards.

PS : I’m sorry if I write such a short review on this one as I just starting to get back on writing review and it’s just a whee bit hard to write when I stopped writing for some time, plus I read this book some time ago and I might missed out the more detailed part for this book. I still thoroughly hope that you guys enjoy reading this though.

Book Review – We’ll Always Have Summer

I’m going to talk about a couple things in this post. First, I’m going to write about what I think about the book itself and second I will write about what I think about the whole series.

I finished the book around last week. It’s such a captivating read that I cannot stop reading the book. This is officially my favorite book in the series. The story is so beautiful and really light. It’s the perfect end of series book.

It’s the end of summer. It’s actually always summer here in my home country and also back in Singapore. After all, they are tropical countries but the mood really change because it’s near October and October means Halloween. I’m on the mood for some fantasy, crime/thriller, and horror book during this month because again, it’s almost halloween. We’ll always have summer is actually really perfect to end my summer. By the way, I literally will always have summer because I live in a tropical country hahaha..

The storyline of the book is very interesting. I think this book has the best storyline than the other two in the series. The story is very heartwarming and It’s just a book that gives you a nice feeling. Actually the whole series give you that nice feeling but I just like this book best. The ending makes me feel happy and that is very important for the book and the whole series. A bad ending could ruin a lot of things.

The character are lovely as always and I just really like Conrad in this book. He is a bit different than in the other books. I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel like his character in this book are much nicer and warmer than the other books in the series. Anyway, I always like him from book one but I like him even more in this book. Go team Conrad !

The overall of the book is nice. I’d give the series a 3.5 stars. I love the characters and the stories. The settings of the book are also very lovely. Every time I imagine the summer house, I always imagine it to be like one of the houses in the Hamptons. I imagine it like Emily Thorne’s house in the TV series ‘Revenge’, simple, white, and neat. It seems like a very lovely house. I’d love to live in that kind of house someday. This series is indeed a very lovely and heart warming series.

There are no more words to describe this series except that I love it. I’m going to pick up more books by Jenny Han because she is such an amazing author. I love how she write her words down and I have no regrets picking this series up.

I will suggest this series for people from 13 onwards and people who love contemporary books especially summer contemporaries.

Movie Review – The Maze Runner

I’ve been slacking off these days. I’ve been wanting to make a review for this movie but I got stuck watching Agents of Shield which is truly truly awesome ! Anyway this post isn’t about that TV series but it’s about a movie that I watched last week which is The Maze Runner. I highly anticipate this movie and I have a very high expectation for The Maze Runner movie. Just a heads up, I read the novel and I really love it but I don’t want this post to be about the difference of the movie from the novel because in every novel adaptation, there will always be a difference. I decided that I will make a review only about the movie and become as objective as possible then at the very end of the post I will tell you the difference and some parts of the movie that didn’t meet my expectation.

This movie is about a guy called Thomas who woke up and find himself in a box that’s heading up. He got no memory except his name. Nobody in that place seems to know anything except their name and they’ve been trying to find a way out for years. All this time they all think that the only way out from that place is the maze. Everything changed when Thomas and a girl arrived.

That’s not exactly the best synopsis of the movie but if you want to know more just watch the trailer.

I love the characters in this movie. They are all very loveable and I think that the actors and actresses suit the character they played very nicely. The storyline is nice and very fast paced. It makes you wonder what happened next. At some point, I do feel like the story goes too fast and I’m hoping there are more explanation on why that happened.I also love the settings and the movie effects. It looks so real.

Overall, I think the movie is enjoyable to watched and I didn’t regret watching the movie. Although I feel there are some flaws in this movie but I think it’s still worth to watch. This movie did not meet my expectation because I was hoping more details in the movie but turns out there are not much details in the movie. My friend who already watched it told me that it was really good and she went home still wondering about that movie which is for me a sign that a movie is really really good. I think I’m a bit disappointed because I have a very high expectation about the movie.

As I promised, here are some differences between the novel and the movie. I won’t make a spoiler on what is the differences in case you want to read the novel so I’m just going to point out the time. The ending is a bit different from the book, it’s not as detail and not as i don’t know, intriguing perhaps, as the book. I was really looking forward for the ending when I watched the movie but turns out it’s a bit different. The good thing about the movie is the main character doesn’t annoy me at all instead, he’s a very lovely character. In the book, I find him very annoying at the beginning but I end up liking him at the end of the book.

I suggest this movie for people who love fantasy, YA and dystopian movies and books. I also suggest this for people from 12 onwards.
