Top Ten Tuesday – Ten Books I Really Love But Feel Like I Haven’t Talked About Enough/In A While

Diary.svg_.hi_

What’s up everyone ? Guess what, I’m alive hahaha…

I know it’s been a while since I post something in the blog and perhaps most of you ( though I’m not sure if there really is a you who read this blog ) thought that I’ve abandoned this blog. I may or may not think about that but rest assured that I’m now back for good.

If any of you wonder why I’m suddenly missing from the blog posting chain ( though again, I’m not sure if there really is a you who read this blog, but let’s just assume there is ok? ), I’ve been adjusting to my new life in uni since I’ve just graduated from my diploma last year and currently living my degree life. But mostly, I just ran out of ideas to write in this blog because I haven’t read that many books and I just don’t feel like writing any movie reviews. Plus, I’ve been extremely busy ( yes, I’m not exaggerating guys! ) with club activities as well and I found a new hobby to practice during my holiday season, baking! I might share some recipes under ‘Daily Life’ section on top menu soon.

So, let’s get back the point of this post. I decided to do this top ten tuesday each week just so my blog won’t be dead and might follow up with an extra post if I have something I read or watch during the week.

Here are my list for this week top ten tuesday topic :

  1. Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom – This book is an all time favorite for me especially when I’m in doubt and need some good wisdom. Just kidding, I’ll ask my family and friends first if I need some wisdom but nevertheless, this book offer a good and thoughtful life wisdom and definitely leave me in an awe and deeper understanding in life after I read it. This is one of those book that make me think more about what is really important in life and for me this is my favorite book from Mitch Albom. I still remember I rave so much about this book to my friends after I read it. Moreover, this is a non-fiction book and featuring this book in the book I love list says a lot since I’m not much of a non-fiction reader.
  2. Wonder by R J PalacioWhatever words I’m writing here won’t do this book any justice. You need to read it yourself to know how good and valuable this book is. It’s just one of those feel good book with a lot of important value about friendship and struggles about being different. This is one of my top favorite book and I think everyone should read this at least once.
  3. Everyday by David Levithan – It’s funny how I never talk about this book in this blog. Perhaps because it’s been a while since I read this book. Probably around 2 years ago and honestly this book got a really good plot and seriously though, who would have such an interesting idea about a soul with different body every single day. Such a unique story and very well written too. This book was recommended by my friend and this is her favorite book as well.
  4. And Then There Were None by Agatha ChristieMy first Agatha Christie book and damn this book really blew my mind. Honestly, I’m really looking forward to read this book after I watched a Korean drama ( The Master’s Sun ). A riddle from this book was mentioned in the drama and it instantly hooked me. It’s just so interesting and mysterious and captivating. If you really love mystery novels, this book is really for you. It has a wonderful plot and a good ‘try to guess’ who the bad guy is feels. I’m not sure if you understand what that means but it is essentially a really good mystery book and one of my favorite from Agatha Christie’s books.
  5. Saga by Brian K. VaughanI mentioned it once in this book but I don’t think I’ve mentioned it enough. I’ve read until volume IV and the storyline is just amazing. I haven’t read the latest one yet which is volume V but wow, I can seriously finish this series in one seating. I cannot wait to read the rest of the series.
  6. The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen ChboskyI watched the movie first before I read the book and I’m not gonna lie, I merely watched the movie because Logan Lerman and Emma Watsons is in it. I thought the movie was okay and later on I decided to grab the book because I don’t quite understand the ending of the movie. I love how different the writing style in this book is and most importantly this book give me a lot of feels. I can’t quite explain how but Charlie’s journey is just so real that it makes me think that his situation can really occurs in real life.
  7. When The Mountains Meet The Moon by Grace LinThis is just a lovely children book that I really really like. The story is simple yet full of morale lessons and the art work is just so cute. Perhaps I’m biased but growing up in a Chinese household make me value books with Chinese folklore like this.
  8. Humans of New York by Brandon StantonI remember a couple years back that I am so obsessed with HONY instagram. The idea of capturing strangers and writing down their stories even as simple as their everyday life is just so unique. When it was made into a book, I just need to get it and the book is just a lovely collection that I can flip once in a while to find a good inspiration in it.
  9. Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary This book give me a lot of similar feels as when I read Wonder and that is definitely a good thing since Wonder is just hands down, one of my ultimate favorite book of all time. This book is shorter and in a sense, simpler than Wonder but nevertheless, it is a great read.
  10. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom RiggsThis is the only recent read that I really really enjoy. This book left me with joy and curiosity for more stories. I haven’t yet read the rest of the series but I will as soon as I got the time. I haven’t enjoy reading a fantasy book this much since Harry Potter series and Percy Jackson series ended. I can see myself loving this book as much as the two series I mentioned before but we’ll see..

So, these are my current top ten books that I really love but I haven’t talked about enough. I hope you find something you like here and if not, you can share what yours is in the comment box. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Cheers,

E

I’ve just checked my last post and turns out the last time I wrote a post in this blog is 5 months ago. Man, how fast the time flies. I don’t even realize it’s been that long since I last manage to write something here.

In case you are wondering, I’ve been very busy with uni life and exams. I’ve been pushing myself to study harder and try to do my very best in my exams. Hence, the lack of time for reading books and watching new movies. Even if I manage to watch some movies in the cinema, when I got back to home, I’d be exhausted and have no mood to write a review. I also kind of dealt with some personal issues these couple months and I try to rediscover myself so I don’t really have the strength to write physically and emotionally.

After the hectic uni life, I have a little more than a month break and I got a chance to visit Japan for a week. Japan is such an interesting country and I’d love to visit more cities in Japan in the future time and Tokyo too as I didn’t get to explore much of Tokyo during this visit. I’ll let the picture do the justice on how amazing Japan is. Those pictures are taken by me, my sister, and my dad. I’m not the only one who took those pictures so I need to give some credits to my sister and dad. From all the cities that I visited during this short getaway, I must say that Osaka is my favorite. I never quite get why myself but I think It’s because the feeling that the city gives me. It is very calming and soothing. Everything just look really laid back in there and it’s a good thing after one spend a lot of time in the rushing Singapore.

I’d be spending more time writing in this blog in the future. By the end of this month I might post some book wrap up and movie wrap up as I’ve read and watched quite a lot of books and movies during my uni break. Hopefully I’ll finish writing the post next week.

Cheers,

Book Review – March Wrap Up

Hello everyone ! Today I’d like to share my thoughts on some of the books that I’ve read last month. I finished a couple of books, 5 books to be precise. Actually the first two books I’m going to review was read on February and I’ve made a short review of it on my goodreads account but since I didn’t make a February wrap up here, I don’t know why I don’t make it, I thought I’d just include those books in this wrap up.

1. Saga, Volume 2

I finished this book in the airport on my way back to my hometown. This was such a quick read. I actually read 1/4 of this book back in Singapore but I can’t finished it due to lots of things to do at that moment. This series is just epic and I can’t get enough of it. The story and the graphic still blew my mind. I just love this series so much and the story keep on getting better. I’m definitely going to order the 3rd and 4th book as soon as I went back to Singapore.

2. Becoming Generation Flux

The author sent me this e-book in exchange for an honest review.  First of all, thank you for sending me the book. I read this during my reading slump and I went through this so slowly because of it. This book is surely not my usual cup of tea but I do find this as a very handy book. I do find some new insights and perspectives as I’m reading this book. I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this on my blog but I’m currently pursuing a degree in business and this book sure give me lots of new insights to nowadays working environment. I do find this as a quite hard book, there are some moments when I felt bored when reading this book but at the end of the day, when I finally finished it, I feel happy because I feel like I finally read something useful for my future career life. I really think that everyone especially people who are currently in college or fresh graduate who are completely clueless of the working world should give this book a chance because there really are some really good advices about the working world in this book.

3. Girl Online

This is actually the book that got me back into my reading mood. First of all, I need to say that I’m not a big fan of this book’s cover and I do think that the cover could be much better. Just saying, just saying. No hate for the book. Anyway this book has been such a hype because it’s written by Zoella, a famous youtuber who apparently broke the sales record of Harry Potter. That is impressive. The book itself is quite interesting. It’s such an easy and sweet read. The kind of book that gives you that warm fuzzy feeling. I find the storyline interesting, It’s about a girl who wrote an online blog anonymously and blog her daily life. One day, she met a guy in New York who is very very lovely but he has a secret that might threaten her cover on the blog. Overall, this book is just a wonderfully simple and short read. It’s so cheesy and cute at the same time and it’s pretty hard to put down once I started reading it. It’s a good job for a debut novel.

4. Lola and The Boy Next Door

Lola is definitely not my favorite character in this book though her name is on the cover and this is the story of her life. On the other hand I love love Cricket, the main male character in this novel. He is such an interesting character and I just love how Stephanie Perkins describe guy in her novel. The male lead in her novels can seriously make you swoon. There is no more need to mention that the story is extremely sweet, so sweet that it might give you a diabetes. Stephanie Perkins is just so good at making extra sweet story. As I said before, Lola is not my favorite female lead in the Anna and The French Kiss series because I feel like she is too quirky but I do love the fact that she is very talented. I much prefer Anna but I do have a feeling that I’d like Isla more which reminds me that I need to order that book as soon as possible. I actually want to bought it before in the bookstore at the same time with this one but unfortunately they are out of stock. So sad. Anyway I can’t wait to read the Isla and The Happily Ever After. For some odd reasons I think it will be interesting if Miss Perkins made a sequel about Calliope, Cricket’s twin sister as I think the story might be interesting. Anyone has the same opinion as me?

5. The Blood of Olympus

I think there is no more need to mention of how much I love Rick Riordan’s book and this series. The story just keep on getting more and more interesting on each book and I am so sad when I finished this book because the Heroes of Olympus journey is over. I got a really bad book hangover after I finished this series and it’s just bad guys. So bad that I searched the graphic arts and more things related to this series. I’ve been complaining about the series cover a lot but this one just kill it. The cover is beautiful and I love the cover a lot. It’s just so gorgeous guys. The story is da bomb. I don’t know if you understand what I’m saying but what I meant is that this last book is a good wrap up for the whole series but Mr Riordan leave a couple of cliffhanger in the book. Why oh why? I want to know more about what happened to Leo. More Leo please and more Percy too. The characters in this book are as always, interesting but I do find my 2 least favorite characters which is Piper and Jason. No hate though, just like other characters better. I found myself really liking Reyna’s character in this book and I also really like Nico but I started liking Nico in House of Hades which in case you are wondering, no there is no review about that book. I also don’t know why I didn’t write it. To wrap up the whole review for this book, this is just a MUST READ book, to be precise, a MUST READ SERIES. It’s so awesome that I would recommend this book to everyone. JUST READ IT PEOPLE AND SEE HOW AWESOME THIS BOOK IS !

That’s all for March wrap up. I hope you enjoy the review !

Movie Review – Cinderella

As a kid growing up watching Disney’s cartoons, I’ve alway love princesses and there is no exception for Cinderella. This movie is packed with fairy tales, colours, and magic, and don’t forget the dream comes true. Everything in this movie is so beautiful. I especially love the castle, the dress, and the glass slippers.

I watched this movie a couple weeks ago and I personally love it. The story is the same old same old Cinderella story but there is a small difference in the movie which I won’t tell you so you’ll watch it yourself to find out plus I want to make a spoiler free review.

I’ve been anticipating this movie for a while and when I finally get to watch it, I was so so happy. I personally like this one better than Maleficent. I don’t even know why, I think I just love it when the movie stays true to the original story and this one does.

I just need to say that the props in this movie are very pretty and dreamy. The shoes and the blue dress that Cinderella wore to the ball is phenomenal. It’s just so grand and so pretty and something that a princess would wear.

The overall of the movie was good. I love it and I really like the casts of the movie. I think that they are the right choices for this movie.

I don’t have much more words for this movie because I just really like it. It’s a typical Cinderella movie but it gives me that same magical feeling that the Disney’s cartoon version gives me back when I was a kid. I think this movie is a good reminder for our childhood. If you want to get those nostalgic childhood feelings, I suggest you to watch this movie !

Cheers,

Movie Review – Chappie

I watched this movie at the beginning of this month just because all movies that I anticipated hasn’t came out. I expect nothing from this movie, in fact, I expect it to be boring since the last movies about robots that I watched bored me. I’ve been wanting to make a review for this for ages but I just can’t seem to get my hands on it. I don’t even know why since I actually got time to do the review. I don’t even know if you can still watch this movie in the cinema or not but I think it’s still playing in some cinemas.

This movie turns out to be okay. I thought I’m not gonna like this movie but it happens to be quite interesting. The movie is about Chappie, a robot who happened to be a successful artificial intelligence experiment. Chappie is a police robot that happened to be broken but later been used as a testing subject for artificial intelligence. The story gets interesting when Chappie fall into the gangster hand. Now, I’m not going to tell you more about the story since it won’t be fun if you don’t watch it by yourself.

When I think about this movie and how it might actually happened in real life, it scares me. Robots that can think for themselves and have feelings? It’s just so weird, fascinating and creepy at the same time because it might means that they might replace us in this world. It might be the end of mankind. If the robot is kind, sure, we can live happily together but what if they suddenly think to take over the planet. Pretty scary, huh? I think I imagine things too far.

The storyline is pretty okay but I find the ending a bit odd. The whole movie is just okay for me but it makes me think right after I finished watching it. The casts are actually what makes me interested in watching the movie. There is Hugh Jackman and Dev Patel which happened to play the two main characters in the movie.

If you have watched the movie, what do you think about it? And if you don’t, would you consider watching it?

Reading Playlist 101

Hello everyone,

Just to prove that I’m in fact, still alive and breathing, here is a playlist for all of you that I made last week. It’s a pretty chill playlist to accompany all of you while reading. I don’t know about you but I love listening to chilling music while reading and I found a couple of good songs to share with you to listen to while reading.

Just a bit of a random rants here, I’ve been having reading slumps for almost a month. Yes guys, it happened again. I’ve just been so engrossed in Korean drama and I’ve been watching it non-stop. I’ve just stopped a couple days ago and get back into reading again which makes me feel really good. This is also the reason why I haven’t been posting a lot lately in this blog. There will be a couple of reviews coming up this week and I hope I won’t procrastinate so I can really post it this week.

I actually got some other things I wanted to write in this post yesterday but I forgot. My bad..

Anyway, have you listen to the playlist? What do you think? I hope you enjoy it. If you happened to read this post and like this playlist I made, please like this post or comment so I’ll know what you think.

Cheers,

Movie Review – Kingsman : The Secret Service

If you love movie as much as I am, I’m pretty sure you’ve heard about this movie. I don’t know if it’s just in where I live but this movie has been a hype ! I’m pretty excited when I finally got to see the movie because you know, I just want to know what’s all the hype about this movie plus the trailer is pretty awesome.

The movie is definitely awesome. I was pretty skeptical at first because I have a high expectation for this movie but damn this movie pass my expectation. The story is well done, the action is awesome, not to mention the awesome choice of casts and settings. I think I seriously love everything about this movie. I can’t even think of any bad things to criticise, not that I’m a professional critics or anything, but sometimes I’d like to point out things I don’t like in a movie review.

Let me just say that the storyline is so great. It’s not too simple nor complicated just the perfect amount of it. I don’t know if I had mention it here that I have a major love for action movie especially if it is related to spy, agent, or other things similar to that. I like the concept of the movie because it’s pretty different from other action movie except James Bond series as the agents are gentlemen. It’s been a while since I watched a movie with this kind of concept. I also love the little comedy bits in this movie. I think it makes the movie much more fun to watched.

The characters are also played very well. I think all characters harmonised the story and make it a wonderful movie to watch. I love the actors and actresses choices in this movie as they act nicely. They make the whole movie experience so enjoyable.

I cannot say much about this movie as it is such an awesome movie and no words can describe how much I like this movie. I think this is by far my favourite movie in this year but this year is not over so I’m anticipating more good movies. I really hope there will be a sequel to this movie because no doubt I’m going to watch it. I’d suggest this movie for people who love action movies.

Cheers,

E
